Joy and I visited the Deutscher Soldatenfriedhof near the campsite early this evening. Over 30,000 German troops lost their lives in this area during WWII and are buried here. A large number of them are unidentified.
Very sobering, very moving, very sad, very poignant. A beautiful location, managed and carefully maintained by the German War Graves Commission. It lies at the top of the Futa Pass overlooking the surrounding mountains.
