Now in Promontorio del Gargano. I didn’t know this bit of Italy existed! It is a beautiful area with a large part of it being a national park. It is hilly – a lot of Italy is mountainous we have found. The coastline has 2 large lagoons.
The camp site is up in the hills somewhere near Vico del Gargano. We are not sure where we are exactly as the road was twisty and narrow and we just followed the instructions we had from the website! However that matters not as this is a little oasis of calm and relaxation. A beautiful pool which overlooks the coastline,
hammocks and comfortable chairs in the shade and even an outside double bed for a midday nap when the sun is too hot! Camping is very informal here – choose your spot in the woodlands and set up camp. No regimented marked out plots here – take note Camping and Caravanning club uk. The downside of this is that the best spots were already taken. But we eventually found a shady glen big enough to take our monster van.
We are very comfortable …..now did we have a plan to go to Pompei?…..
Enjoying reading all about your travels. But don’t worry about the thunderstorms, we have them here in Cornwall too, and the rain!! I am making copious notes from your musings for when we do similar in 2017!

Like the rest of Europe, it seems we’re having a heat wave at the moment – no storms for the last week. The exception to Europe (as so often) is the UK, which I’ve heard is getting somewhat of a soaking.
All may change, however; we’re planning of going to Pompei/Herculaneum/Naples over the next few days and the forecast is ~ 26° with “chance of storm”! TBH, I’d rather that than trogging around Pompei in 34° of searing sunshine.
Hope you’re getting some windsurfing in. Despite lugging one of my boards with me on this trip, I’ve still not sailed since last November. Getting this damned great motorhome to a beach is going to be a real challenge. I often think we should have gone for a caravan instead. And may still do, some time in the future.

sounds like the best so far for camping but it will take some effort to find as strange a host as the accordion player/singer/saxophonist/ gasthof owner!!!! really I’m quite jealous of whatever you encounter although the bike rides leave me a bit exhausted!!
The site is very laid back Gaynor. No regimented plots and the swimming pool is wonderful. Draw back is that it is a small site and a lot of sloping ground. It was difficult to find a space for our big van so we are parked up a long way from the only toilet/shower facility at the top of the site (communal and mixed – no shower cubicles) It is a long walk from our van for a wee! I have taken to riding my bike there and back. 🙂 The bike riding is very exhausting but I think I am getting fitter. If you drive down through Italy next year, where will you get a ferry to Cyprus? That would be amazing journey to do. x
